This picture is of, my key not in the ignition, the radio fuse in my hand, and the radio on. Help! I think it's a short? When the car is on and the fuse is in it will play, but none of the controls work.

Best to disconnect the battery before the car catches on fire. If you remove the battery and the radio is still on, consult your nearest priest and/or exorcist.

Have you pulled the radio out? Someone might have hacked up the wiring for an aftermarket radio then put the stock back in.

Could the fuse be for the amp while the control unit is using a different accessory fuse?

Nope. This worked absolutely fine for about 2 years until this morning.

still worth checking. What's the expiration date of cheap electrical tape adhesive? The answer might be two years.

Buddy of mine had this issue with his RS! There was an issue with the wiring in the harness due to an after market radio having been installed at one point. dunno how they fixed it but it works fine now

Good to know. Definitely taking it apart when I get home.

Some things you could try:
1. put out the radio, unplug and plug it back in to reset it. I needed to do that to the OEM stereo on my old Saab.
2. pull out more fuses.
3. disconnect battery
4. preemptively burn the car.
